Dear readers,
During my recent visit to the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), I was
able to see with genuine pleasure how the Mayor of the city of Thuin, Mr Paul Furlan,
kept the promise he had made to mark the opening of our new offices, to label the
city as “Thuin, the World's Capital of Dogs”.
As a result of this initiative, the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI),
with the aid of Thuin Tourist Office, organised a successful walk through historic
medieval part of the city.

Dog Day on June 7th
Great activities and events throughout Germany
It was all about dogs on 6–7 June – the weekend on which the Dog Day was celebrated
in Germany. This time with the support of talk show presenter and dog ambassador,
Bettina Böttinger. And with a great deal of involvement on the part of many committed
dog-lovers.
Once a year the Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen (VDH – German canine organisation)
dedicates an entire day to “man’s best friend”, in appreciation of the special role
played by dogs in society.
Over 330 activities and events throughout Germany
This year, the Dog Day was held on June 7th, offering all dog-lovers
a large number of entertaining as well as informative events right across the country.
A total of 337 activities and events at different venues attracted visitors throughout
Germany. In dog-training areas and parks, events in which dogs played the principal
role were held everywhere. These included, for example, organised walks, an open
day at dog-training centres, sporting tournaments, dog shows and working dog demonstrations.
Bettina Böttinger is the ambassador of the dog
The Dog Day was supported by the current VDH ambassador of the dog and patron, Bettina
Böttinger. Böttinger was honoured as “the Ambassador of the Dog” on account of her
standing out through her extremely positive attitude towards life with a dog and
dogs in general. The popular talk show presenter pursues a very clear objective
in this regard: “I would like, in particular, to call for greater tolerance. I am
convinced that dogs make life more worthwhile. We should do everything to show our
gratitude to them for this.”
